Resilience Could be Your Superpower- bouncing forward during tough times

I had the opportunity to be a panelist for the IEEE WIE ILC Conference on their virtual track. The topics were managing change and conflict, overcoming challenges that leaders face, and, resilience.  Here are a few tips and pointers I provided on the panel:

Resilience is like a muscle it's got to be worked regularly to build the muscle. Others may think about resilience like a bank account, you have to keep adding to the account to have the resilience there when you need it. Daily intentional actions and activities help build resilience. Resilient people = Resilient Teams.

Leaders need trusted allies- whether that be a mentor or coach, a leadership cohort or leadership accountability partner, it is important to have other leaders to whom we can bounce ideas past, get guidance on complex issues and seek support, reassurance or input on challenges leaders face.

Ask good questions to get better answers.

Conflict does not improve with time... it generally becomes more deeply protracted, complex, has gathered up other people in its' vortex, and, becomes more emotional and drama based. Early resolution leads to better solutions.
Having a road map to follow in conflict can increase confidence and competence in dealing with difficult conversations. You can watch a short video about the conflict road map here.

I'll provide a few more highlights and tips on the next article. Until next time, remember, part of getting through conflict and disagreement is having the "courageous dialogue... the conversations that matter most and are mostly avoided." (Hammond).
